Sabbatical Summer 2024
I recently finished my first sabbatical in 34 years on staff with Cru. What a gift to take time to slow down and spend extended time with the Lord. I was not the best sabbatical-er and tried to quit the sabbatical 3 different times but the Lord kept drawing me back.
Slow Down
The first part of my time was to slow down and pull away from ministry activities. Ruth Haley Barton’s book Invitation to Silence and Solitude helped me in quieting my heart and being still.
Fly Fishing
I also took a fly fishing class this summer. Being out in God’s Creation slows me down. Our culture says, push hard, be busy, go go go but I am praying that the Lord will keep slowing me down even as I plunge back into ministry.
